Overview of the Role:
The Stewardship Senior Associate collaborates with business partners to execute Nuveen stewardship program and responsible investing strategy. The role works with research analysts and portfolio managers across the responsible investment platforms to drive/lead engagement with issuers and to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) analysis into the investment process. This role supports a variety of stewardship activities and data-driven initiatives related to responsible investment and ESG analysis, research, and reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Leads engagements with portfolio companies/issuers and investment analysts/PMs to promote long-term value creation.
- Conducts responsible investing and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) research and analysis.
- Supports the integration of ESG insights in investment and engagement processes.
- Supports analysis of thematic issues and makes recommendations for consideration in proxy voting activities.
- Executes proxy voting activities as required during peak times.
- Generates insights on specific financially material ESG risks and opportunities impacting the industry/company.
- Identifies opportunities to develop and improve stewardship initiatives, frameworks and processes.
- Handles analytical projects dealing with proprietary frameworks and third-party data for qualitative/quantitative screening.
- Prepares internal and external presentations, reporting, case studies and other communications.
- Educates investment and client-facing teams on stewardship policies and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- University Degree in a relevant field (Master’s / post-grad qualification preferred)
- CFA or other relevant qualifications desirable
- Experience in asset management
- Successful track record in working with investment professionals to integrate stewardship and ESG considerations into the investment process
- Experience in leading constructive engagements with board members and senior management of issuers
- Experience in developing and implementing responsible investing practices across asset classes
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of how corporate governance practices, environmental risks and social issues may affect risk/return/value profile of investments
